The Australian government provides funding for international students to study in Australia.
Australia Awards Fellowships provide funding for students who are interested in studying in Australia briefly. These awards are funded through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. They are aimed at helping students from low-income countries attend school on a full-time basis. After completing their studies, awardees are required to return to their home country in order to contribute to development. This award provides full tuition remission, air fare, and a stipend for living expenses. Students must be at least eighteen years of age and from a participating country. Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship Awards offers graduate students full funding for Master’s or PhD level degrees. This scholarship is open to any international student, including students from the United States. The scholarships provide full tuition remission as well as travel allowances, some funding to get started in the country, and a monthly stipend. International Postgraduate Research Scholarships is open to international students who plan to conduct postgraduate research in Australia. Approximately 300 awards are granted each year. Students from any country except New Zealand are eligible to apply for this award. This grant covers all tuition fees, health care, and more. The scholarships fund two years for a Master’s program or three years for students in a PhD program. Sydney Achievers International Scholarships are open to new international students who plan to study at the University of Sydney. These awards are intended to increase international students who demonstrate academic excellence. These awards provide $10,000 AUD per year and are available to both undergraduate and graduate students. No additional application is required as all applicants to the university will be considered. Macquarie University International Scholarships provide partial tuition coverage for students who excel academically and who plan to undertake studies at Macquarie University. These awards are open to both undergraduate and graduate students. The amount of the award varies, but a maximum of $10,000 AUD will be awarded. Several priority areas are listed and include engineering, human science, media, linguistics, education, and environment. Several other universities in Australia offer their own scholarships for students who plan to attend a specific university in Australia. These include the: Melbourne International Research Scholarships, Adelaide Scholarships International, La Trobe Academic excellence Scholarships for International Students, Monash University International Merit Scholarships, and the Australian National University International University Scholarship. These awards are aimed at recruiting international students with a strong academic record to study at a specific university in Australia. Students from the United States who are planning to study abroad may also want to check with their study abroad office at their home institution to see whether funds are available.
