Founded in 2012, under the name Bought by Many, the company began with a mission to remove the hassle of insurance. In 2017, the desire for a pet insurance product from its customers led the company to launch ManyPets in the UK. Since then, ManyPets has expanded to Sweden and the United States, adding over 300,000 new customers along the way.

What does ManyPets offer?

ManyPets offers customizable pet health insurance for accidents and illnesses, with an optional wellness plan for routine and preventative care, for both dogs and cats. The details below can help you better understand how each product works so that you can get the coverage you need.

ManyPets pet insurance

No limits on payouts, copays, or care

  • Visit any licensed veterinarian, no restrictions
  • Up to 100% reimbursement on covered veterinary care
  • Choose a deductible of $250, $500, or $750

The ManyPets pet insurance policy covers treatment and healthcare costs for accidents and illnesses. This is the most comprehensive form of pet insurance available on the market.

Policy terms

Policy terms are a crucial part of any insurance product. They’re often customizable — that is, they allow policyholders to adjust both the cost and level of protection they’ll receive. Here are the terms of a ManyPets pet insurance policy:

  • Monthly premium: This varies based on factors like breed, species, and location. Prices start at $20 for dogs and $15 for cats.
  • Deductible: Your choice of $0, $100, $250, $500, or $750
  • Reimbursement: Your choice of 70%, 80%, 90%, or 100%
  • Annual benefit limit: No annual or lifetime limits

What’s covered?

Nearly all pet insurance companies offer accident-and-illness plans, but that doesn’t mean every company covers the exact same things. Here are some items that are covered by a ManyPets insurance policy — and some that aren’t.

What’s CoveredWhat’s Not Covered
Vet fee exams for accidents & illnessesPreventative care (optional Wellness plan)
DiagnosticsPre-existing conditions (unless your pet has been symptom- and treatment-free for 18 months)
MedicationsCosmetic services
SurgeriesNon-FDA approved medications
HospitalizationsPrescription diet
Cancer treatments
Supplies
Hip Dysplasia
Dental illnesses
Eye, ear, and skin infections
Hereditary & congenital conditions
Chronic conditions
And more

Waiting period

After you purchase a policy, you’ll need to go through a brief waiting period before the plan actually takes effect. This is true of all pet insurance providers; after all, they don’t want you to sign up for a plan only after an injury or illness has already occurred.

The ManyPets waiting period is 15 days. But the 15-day waiting period may be waived if your pet was insured with a different carrier within 24 hours of purchasing your ManyPets Pet policy.

ManyPets wellness plan

Optional preventative care coverage

  • The wellness plan is only available as an add-on to an insurance policy
  • Covered items include routine exams, vaccinations, preventative medication, dental cleanings, and holistic care

A ManyPets wellness plan will reimburse you $150 per year for each of the following categories:

  • Routine exams & vaccinations
  • Preventative medications & heartworm tests
  • Dental cleanings
  • Holistic care

Unlike pet insurance, there is no deductible that needs to be met before reimbursement begins. Just remember that once $150 has been reimbursed for a specific category, you’ll be responsible for 100% of the remaining costs in that category.

Pros & cons of ManyPets

  • No annual or lifetime limits on claims

  • Affordable premiums

  • An optional wellness plan for routine care

  • Preexisting conditions may be covered if certain requirements are met

  • You can cancel your policy any time, free of charge if necessary

  • Visit any licensed veterinarian in the United States, with no restrictions

  • Hip dysplasia is not covered for pets enrolled at the age of six or older

Eligibility requirements

Pet insurance through ManyPets has one major limitation for most pet parents: it’s only available in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. While this alone will restrict some from being able to apply for a policy, the good news is the company has announced plans to launch in all 50 states (and the District of Columbia).

Pets eligible for coverage include dogs and cats, with no breed or age restrictions. There’s also no veterinary exam required to enroll with ManyPets. But, when you file your first claim, you will have to submit your pet’s medical records from the prior eighteen months.

How much does ManyPets cost?

ManyPets offers a free online quote tool that will let you find out how much a policy will cost once you’ve input all the relevant information about you and your pet. It won’t take more than a few minutes. The policy is customizable, so you’ll be able to adjust some of the terms to find a price that fits your budget.

As always, it’s important to compare your options when considering a financial product (which after all, insurance is). Since pet insurance companies allow you to get a free quote, we recommend getting a quote from multiple insurers before settling with one company. This can ensure that you get the most coverage, at the best price.
