While ManyPets provides comprehensive coverage, it’s not currently available in Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma, or Vermont. While all pet insurance companies offer an accident and illness policy, that does not mean they all cover the same things. In this regard, ManyPets stood out over Trupanion by covering exam fees, curable pre-existing conditions, and routine care if you select its optional wellness add-on. We received several quotes through each company’s free online quote tool to determine whether ManyPets or Trupanion offered more affordable policies. The zip code, benefit limit, reimbursement rate, and deductible were the same for each quote to ensure a fair comparison. In every instance, ManyPets was the more affordable option. The difference in premium cost was between $19.45 and $53.15 per month, depending on the quote we received. In all four quotes, ManyPets was the more affordable option. On average, a ManyPets policy was 46.75% less expensive than a Trupanion policy. Now, let’s look at a few different scenarios in which ManyPets or Trupanion might be the better option. Thus, making our choice in this scenario an easy one. With ManyPets, exam fees for eligible accidents and illnesses are covered. If you want coverage for preventative care: ManyPets Note: Wellness plans are not currently available through ManyPets. While all pet insurance companies offer a standard plan covering accidents and illnesses, preventative care is not included in these plans. Instead, some companies offer preventative care coverage in the form of an add-on. Trupanion doesn’t offer this add-on to its policies, so ManyPets would be your choice if this is something you want. ManyPets allows you to choose your reimbursement rate and deductible from a list of options. Trupanion’s policy, on the other hand, is a bit more limiting in that you can only customize your deductible. Here are the options available to you with a ManyPets policy: Deductible: Your choice of $0, $100, $250, $500, $750Reimbursement: Your choice of 70%, 80%, 90%, or 100% If you want to be reimbursed 100%: ManyPets ManyPets is one of the only companies that offers a 100% reimbursement rate. However, this rate was only available on some of the quotes we received, so it may not be available for all pets. With Trupanion, the only reimbursement rate available is 90%. If you want the vet to be paid directly: Trupanion If you want to avoid high out-of-pocket costs, then you’ll like Trupanion’s ability to pay the vet directly. Trupanion’s Vet Direct Pay allows it to pay veterinarians equipped with its payment software in seconds at checkout, allowing you to skip the reimbursement process. If you plan to live in Puerto Rico throughout the year: Trupanion Trupanion is available in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, and Puerto Rico. ManyPets is currently available in 17 states, the UK, and Sweden. So, if you are a resident of Puerto Rico, Trupanion is the best option for you. If your pet has a pre-existing condition: ManyPets A pre-existing condition is a condition suffered by your pet before being enrolled in a pet insurance policy. These conditions are typically not covered by your policy and can be costly over the long term. Luckily, ManyPets will cover pre-existing conditions as long as your pet has been symptom-free for 18 months. Trupanion does not cover any form of pre-existing conditions. If you want a shorter waiting period: ManyPets Your waiting period is the time between the day you purchase your policy and the day your coverage begins. During this period, you are responsible for all veterinary costs. Waiting periods are included on all pet insurance policies to ensure pet owners don’t enroll their pet only after an accident or illness occurs. For a shorter waiting period, ManyPets is your option. You’ll wait 14 days for both accidents and illnesses. Trupanion has a 30-day waiting period for illnesses and a five-day waiting period for accidents. Which company is our choice between ManyPets and Trupanion? Our research led us to choose ManyPets over Trupanion. After comparing 17 leading pet insurance providers, we scored ManyPets with a 4.7 out of 5, while Trupanion received a 4.4 out of 5. ManyPets scored higher than Trupanion because it offered more comprehensive coverage, affordable policies, and customizability of its terms.
