Updated Jun 13, 2023   |   4-min read

Some offers mentioned on this page may be outdated. To confirm offers and credit card details, check the issuer’s website.

When you’re comparing the best credit cards, one of the first things you likely look at is the current sign-up bonus. A sign-up bonus is the credit card’s incentive for you to open a new account.

Some examples of credit card sign-up bonuses include cash back after spending a certain amount in the first few months after opening an account. Or if it’s a travel card, the issuer may provide a slew of bonus airline miles. Most sign-up promotions do require that you not only sign up for the card but also that you spend a certain amount in those initial months.

So how do these credit card sign-up bonus offers to compare to one another?

Some High Credit Card Sign-Up Bonus Offers

Here are some high credit card sign-up bonuses available:

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

The Venture card from Capital One does require excellent credit to qualify in most cases, but it’s a great rewards card. The current new cardmember offer is 60,000 bonus miles after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first three months after opening a new account.

The Venture card features unlimited double miles on every dollar spent on every purchase. The card does come with a cost, though. There is a $95 annual fee that you’ll want to think about before applying to make sure your spending habits can make this card reward you more than it’ll cost you.

Chase Sapphire Preferred (August 17 2021)

Chase Sapphire Preferred Card offers 60,000 bonus points if you spend $4,000 in three months after opening an account. That equates to $750 that can be used for travel when points are redeemed through Chase Ultimate Rewards.

The card also features double points on travel and restaurant dining. Until April 30, 2021, cardholders can also earn double points on up to $1,000 in grocery store purchases per month. The annual fee is $95. On all purchases beyond travel and dining spending, the card earns one point per dollar.

Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card

The Chase Sapphire Reserve is an excellent card overall. The current new sign-up bonus is the opportunity to earn 50,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 within the initial three months after opening the account.

The 50,000 bonus points are equal to $750 toward travel when booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards. Cardholders get an automatic $300 credit on their statement each anniversary year for reimbursement for travel purchases as well.

The card earns triple points on travel (after using full travel credit) and dining, which includes airfare, hotels, and anything from fine dining to casual dining. Until April 30, 2021, cardholders can earn triple the points on up to $1,000 in grocery store purchases per month. The annual fee for this card is very high, however. It’s $450 a year, and then another $75 for each authorized user.

Bank of America Premium Rewards

Bank of America Premium Rewards Card

The Bank of America Premium Rewards card features a 50,000 bonus point offer, which is a value of $500. To get the sign-up bonus, new cardholders have to make at least $3,000 in purchases in the initial 90 days after the account is opened.

The card also includes unlimited two points on travel and dining, and there’s up to a $200 travel statement credit reward available.

The annual fee is $95.

The Bottom Line

If you take the time to compare the credit card sign-up bonus offers above, you’ll find that many are appealing, but they do vary significantly. Many of the top bonuses can make cards worthwhile for consumers with rewards that can easily pay for the annual cost of the card.
