According to LendEDU’s College Student Loan Debt Rankings by State report for 2017, Grinnell College has the lowest average student loan debt per borrower figure in the entire state of Iowa: $18,780.
Believe it or not, Grinnell College’s average student loan debt per borrower figure has actually increased by 17.51 percent year-over-year.
The University of Northern Iowa has the second lowest average debt per borrower figure in Iowa, but the lowest out of all public institutions in the state. The average student loan borrower at the University of Northern Iowa can expect to owe $24,325 in student loan debt.
Leaving the average student debtor with $26,603 in educational debt, Mount Mercy University finished third on LendEDU’s list of Iowa colleges that leave borrowers with the least amount of student loan debt.
The University of Dubuque has secured the fourth spot on LendEDU’s list. This private university saddles the average borrower with $26,674 in student loan debt, which represents a year-over-year decrease of 9.83 percent.
Rounding out the top five is the University of Iowa, where the average student debtor can expect to owe $27,715 in educational debt. Just a little over half, 53 percent, of University of Iowa attendees have student loan debt.
At St. Ambrose University, the average student loan borrower will owe $27,929 in educational debt. That amount is the sixth lowest in the entire state of Iowa and represents a year-over-year decrease of 30.04 percent.
Saddling the typical student debtor with $28,501 in educational debt, Northwestern College has finished seventh on LendEDU’s list of the Iowa higher education institutions that give borrowers the least student loan debt. At Northwestern College, 78 percent of graduates have student loan debt.
Iowa State University of Science and Technology burdens the average student borrower with $28,617 in student loan debt. This amount is the eighth lowest in Iowa and also signifies a yearly increase of 3.79 percent.
The average student loan borrower that attends Dordt College should anticipate owing $29,175 in educational debt, which is the ninth lowest figure in the state. 79 percent of all graduates of Dordt College receive their diploma with student loan debt.
Briar Cliff University rounds out LendEDU’s list of the 10 colleges in Iowa that leave the average student loan borrower with the least amount of educational debt. At Briar Cliff University, the average student debtor will owe $29,484 in student loan debt, which is a year-over-year increase of 2.69 percent.
According to LendEDU’s Student Loan Debt by School by State report for 2017, the average student loan borrower that attends any college in Iowa can expect to owe $29,435 in student loan debt. That amount is the 18th highest in the entire United States and represents a year-over-year decrease of 2.69 percent. In Iowa, the percentage of graduates that finish school with student loan debt is 65 percent.
