Students with Wyoming ties are eligible for a number of scholarships to help them fund their studies. Some of these awards are only open to students who are residents of Wyoming while other scholarships are open to any student who attends a college or university in Wyoming. One of the best ways to determine whether you qualify for any state funding is to complete a FAFSA application. In addition, it may be helpful to ask your college whether you qualify for any institution specific funding. University of Wyoming Trustees’ Scholarship is award to 75 Wyoming residents who plan to attend UW for the first time. These awards cover the full cost of tuition, student fees, room, and board for 4 academic years. Students must plan to enroll for at least 12 credits per semester in order to be eligible and must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average. Applicants are chosen based on their high school grade point average, their ACT or SAT scores, and the rigor of their high school academic program. Hathaway Scholarships are awarded to students based on academic merit and financial need. The award provides up to $1,600 per academic year. This award is open only to students who have graduated from a Wyoming high school. Students are chosen based on their exam scores. Wyoming National Guard Association Scholarships are open to members of WYNGA. Students must be in their last two years of high school or a current college student. In order to apply for the award, students must submit an application, a cover letter, two letters of recommendation, and a copy of their transcripts. All materials must be received prior to the March 1st deadline. The amount of the award varies by year. Douvas Memorial Scholarship First Generation American Scholarship provides awards worth $500 to two students from Wyoming. In order to be eligible, students must be a first generation American student who demonstrates financial need and a strong desire to attend college. Students must be high school seniors or students between the ages of 18 and 22 years of age. All applicants must be residents of Wyoming and students must plan to attend a state community college or the University of Wyoming. The award can be used to defray the cost of education expenses. In order to apply for this award, students must complete an online application, which is available at www.edu.wyoming.gov. Students must submit a completed application form their guidance counselor by April. Students who are selected for the award will be notified by the end of May and the award will be sent directly to the college of that the recipient designates.
