Once originally known as All American Aviation and founded in the 1930s, US Airways has endured multiple name changes over the century leading up to its merger with American Airlines in 2015. Now part of the largest airline company of the world, US Airways reaches out to countless destinations throughout the world supporting the demand of millions of travelers year round. In order to offer more products to its customers, US Airways has teamed up with Barclays to offer a travel credit card for those looking to make the most of their US Airways experience. With this partnership between Barclays and the renowned airline company, the US Airways Premier World Mastercard has been a part of the fray for several years with its rewards package and competitive rates.
Benefits and Rewards
The distinguishing feature of this credit card deal is the sign up bonus because it offers 40,000 miles for signing up and making just one purchase. Many other credit card offers require the user to reach a spending limit of $1,000 to $5,000 within a three month period. This distinctive offer increases the attractiveness of the US Airways Premier World Mastercard. There is an additional available 5,000 mile bonus for reaching a certain spending limit each year.
Considering other ways to earn miles towards travel rewards, two miles are awarded for every dollar spent directly with US Airways which is the highest rate aside from bonus offers. The standard rate applies to general purchases for which one mile is awarded per dollar spent.
A considerably travel benefit comes in the form of an annual reward of two travel companion ticket fares. These tickets are discounted at $99 which is a solid deal compared to other credit cards. Premier World Mastercard holders enjoy convenient boarding privileges with US Airways; for instance, card holders do not need to wait for a zone to be called and can board sooner.
Rates and Fees
The US Airways Premier World Mastercard kicks off with an annual fee totaling $89 without any sort of introductory rate. There is a foreign transaction fee that card holders must take note of; this rate is 3% of the converted United States Dollar amount. Standard fees are present in the terms and pricing of this card. Standard balance transfers are subject to either a $10 or 4% fine with the decision on rate going to the greater generated value. When performing a cash advance, card holders can look forward to a fee of $10 or 4% with the same stipulations as a balance transfer. Late payments receive a $35 fee maximum which depends on the credit worthiness; returned payments generate the same fee. There are no over limit fees with the Premier Mastercard.
Standard annual percentage rates (APR) for normal purchases range between 15.99% and 24.99% (variable). Balance transfer APR starts out different with a twelve month long introductory rate of 0%; this rate converts to a variable range of 15.99% to 24.99%. Cash advance APR is 25.24% (variable), and penalty APR is up to a maximum of 27.24% depending on credit history.
The US Airways Premier World Mastercard offers several typical and unusual benefits to its cardholders. The flagship bonus offer essentially beats the field since there is no spending requirement aside from making one purchase. Another aspect is the slightly below average annual fee which is a mere $6 less than a typical yearly fee. There truly are not many more distinguishing factors to set this card apart since it offers typical mile accrual rates that are seen from many other airlines. Overall, the card offers good benefits for its user that give it a somewhat unique edge over other travel credit cards, but these benefits are not significant enough to overwhelming dominate the airline credit card industry.
