Many scholarship opportunities exist for students who are pursuing a degree in teaching. Various funding agencies aim to hire and retain high quality teachers. Teachers may first want to complete the FASFA to see whether they qualify for any federal funding. Additionally, state governments often provide incentives in the form of scholarships or grants to student teachers. Next, students may also want to check out some of the below scholarship opportunities that they may be eligible for:
Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant (TEACH) is funded through the U.S. government and was created to train teachers to teach in underserved schools. Eligible students can receive up to $4,000 per year to help defray the cost of their studies. Students are required to be pursuing a degree in teaching. Students are required to sign an agreement that they will work in a high need area after graduation. Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program is funded through the National Science Foundation. The program aims to increase the number on STEM teachers in K-12 programs. Educators Rising PDK educational Foundation Scholarships range from $500 to $2,000. Applications must be received prior to April 1st. More information is available at: https://www.educatorsrising.org/what-we-offer/scholarships.
KHEAA Teachers Scholarship Program provides funding to aspiring teachers in Kentucky. In order to be eligible for this award, students must be a citizen of the United States and reside in KY. Furthermore, students must be planning to attend a school full-time and enroll in a program that will provide teacher certification. Eligible students must be able to demonstrate financial need and be a student in good standing. Lastly, students must agree to teach for one semester in KY for each semester that the scholarship is awarded. The award provides students with up to $2,500 each semester. Future Educators Association Prospective Educator Scholarships provides up to thirty students with $1,000 scholarships. In order to be eligible, students must be in their last year of high school and plan to enroll in an education program. Current college undergrads who are majoring in education are also eligible to apply. Students must be a member of FEA and have a letter of recommendation from a PDK member.
Gates Millennium Scholars Program is open to financially needy students who are majoring education. IN order to be eligible, students must be a member of a minority group and be a high school senior. Students are required to hold at least a 3.3 grade point average. In addition, students must respond to eight questions, provide letters of recommendation, and complete the FAFSA. Approximately 1,000 scholarships are awarded each year. Applications are due in January of the application year.
