Students majoring in social work have dedicated their lives to helping other people. They are faced with some of the most challenging of human emotions. Many funding agencies are aware of the dedication and commitment to education that social workers bring to the field. As such, many funding opportunities exist to find social work scholarships. Dr. Alma Adams Scholarship provides funding of up to $10,000. Two awards are offered each year. In order to be eligible for this award, students must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled full-time in a field related to social work. All applicants are required to hold at least a 3.0 grade point average. Furthermore, students must show that they have been involved in service to underserved populations, such as prisoners, at-risk youth, or other vulnerable populations. Jewish Community Center North American Graduate Scholarship provides up to $10,000 to students who are studying social work on a full-time basis. In addition to funding, scholars will receive valuable career development and other professional opportunities. Maryland Graduate and Professional School Scholarships provide awards of up to $5,000. Any graduate or professional student may apply. Social work students are one of the eligible fields that this award funds. Students are required to complete the FAFSA. In order to be eligible, students must be residents of Maryland and demonstrate financial need. Students may be enrolled on a full-time or part-time basis. Students are required to attend one of the approved institutions listed on the agency’s website. The amount of the award varies from $1,000 to $5,000. Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial MSW Scholarship is open to minority students who are majoring in social work. Students must either identify as American Indian/Alaskan Native or Hispanic/Latino. The number of awards varies by year. For the current funding year, ten awards worth $4,000 each will be awarded. Verne LaMarr Lyons memorial MSW Scholarship is open to social work students who are committed to working with African American communities. Each year, four scholarships worth $5,500 are awarded. Anne Andrews Scholarship for Mental Health Advocates is open to students who attend Colorado State University. In order to be eligible for this award, students must be enrolled as a student in the College of Applied Human Science. Students must be in at least their sophomore year of college and must be majoring in social work. Students interested in applying must have at least a 3.0 grade point average. Furthermore, students must demonstrate financial need. Priority consideration is given to a non-traditional student who is active in their community and who plans to advocate for individuals affected with chronic mental health issues.
