Students with disabilities face unique challenges when it comes to an education. Whether it is a physical, mental, or psychological disability, these individuals can face problems both financially and academically in the pursuit of their degree.

Because of medical or service needs outside of the pursuit of a degree, paying for a college education is one of the biggest challenges that these individuals can face, making quitting their pursuit of a dream seem that much more of a viable option. There is, however, help for those that want to fund a college education including several scholarships for students with disabilities. Anne Ford and Allegra Ford Thomas Scholarship

Anne Ford and Allegra Ford Thomas created a scholarship that is given to individuals with a documented learning disability. The scholarship, which amounts to approximately twenty-five hundred dollar annually, is aptly named the Anne Ford and Allegra Ford Thomas Scholarship with an end goal of providing assistance to those who will already face challenges in their academic pursuits.

The scholarship requires that an individual be able to articulate his or her learning disabilities, the challenges that they face, and the discrimination that they may have faced in the way that is best for them to share this information. American Council of the Blind Scholarship

Among the different scholarships for students with disabilities are those from the American Council of the Blind. This organization offers students who are legally blind a chance to earn one-thousand dollars toward their college educational pursuits.

Those that apply must have at least a 3.3 grade point average, documentation of their diagnosis with blindness, and must be legally blind in both of their eyes. Further, they must be enrolled full-time in an academic program of higher learning or a vocational institute. Those that are working part-time are also welcome to apply but they must provide proof that this a decision made because they also have a full-time job.

AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability

The AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability is awarded each year to students that have a disability in the amount of one-thousand dollars. These scholarships for students with disabilities require individuals to be pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in a health related field that has some connection to disability research or betterment.

For instance, those that are going to apply can be pursuing an education in public health, rehabilitation engineering, or be focused on disability policy. All applicants must also be US citizens or a legal resident of the country and be enrolled in an accredited program. Further, they must also provide proof of their disability as well.
