Many universities are currently offering scholarships for students from Pakistan or those who have roots within the Pakistani community. Funding for these students has increased in recent years. Below is a list of schools that offer special scholarships just to meet the educational and financial needs of Pakistani students.
Eastern Tennessee State University offers achievement-based scholarships to Pakistani students at both the undergraduate and graduate level. This scholarship can be used for up to eight semesters for undergraduate study and up to five semesters for graduate students. There are no limits on the type of degree that the scholarship will cover. The scholarship covers half of tuition expenses as well as the maintenance fees. The deadline for fall semester is July 1st and the deadline for spring semester is October 1st.
Mondelez International allows Pakistani students to study for up to twelve weeks in the United States. Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate institution in one of the approved degree programs (i.e., food chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, etc.). Students are eligible after their first year of undergraduate study, have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, and have a demonstrated background in leadership skills. The number of scholarships varies by the year and recipients will be funded to ten to twelve weeks of study. The award is for $1,000 scholarship, a paid summer internship with the company, and an offer to attend a paid conference in Chicago. Applications must be submitted by October 1 and applicants may be required to participate in a phone or video interview.
Boston University offers twenty merit-based scholarships to Pakistani students. This funding can be used to cover any type of degree offered at Boston University. Students typically have near perfect or perfect GPAs and have ranked highly in their high school class. In addition to an exceptional academic record, students also are unique and diverse in their thinking, actions, or experiences. These scholarships are renewable for up to eight semesters. In order to apply, students must complete the common application for undergraduate study prior to December 1st and submit standardized test results before November.
Portland State University offers up to 30 scholarships of $4,500 to Pakistani students each year. Undergraduate students are eligible regardless of their intended program of study and graduate students funding may be available depending on availability of funds. A minimum GPA of 3.5 is typically required and is only available to new applicants. These scholarships are renewable is the student maintains excellent academic progress. The deadline is November 1st and no separate application form is required, only an application to the university.
Tulane University and Miami University also offer substantial scholarships to Pakistani students who have demonstrated academic excellence. These scholarships are also based on merit and cover up to full tuition. Pakistani students with strong academic backgrounds should strongly consider looking closely at the above schools, as they may be able to get an undergraduate or graduate degree for no cost via one of the above scholarships.
