For those who have a passion for firefighting, there is an inherent selflessness in their pursuit of a career. Running into burning buildings and putting out fire is something that is both important but also highly noble. Chief Charles Henry Memorial Scholarship
The International Association of Fire Chiefs offers individuals in the fire science field to receive monies toward their furthering education in the form of scholarships for firefighters. There are several different programs available through this nonprofit organization including the Chief Charles Henry Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was created in honor of Chief Henry who was an active part of his communities firefighting community for an impressive two decades prior to his death.
This scholarship is given each year and can range in the amount provided. For those who wish to apply, however, they must provide proof of financial need as well as their role in connection with a fire department or the fire science field. Young Firefighters Award
For those who are interested in pursuing a career in firefighting, often times this passion starts young. There are several different programs throughout the United States that help to promote and instill a passion for public service and firefighting to harness this excitement and build the foundation for a lifelong career. Among these different nonprofit groups is the Young Firefighters Award also known as the Fire Explorers Scholarship.
This scholarship is given to those who have demonstrated a passion for firefighting by becoming involved in work-site based exhibitions and explorations as part of the Fire Explorers program. Those who have successfully completed this program are eligible to apply for scholarships for firefighters through this program. All of those who can apply must have completed at least eighth grade and they must be within the range of fourteen to twenty years of age. To apply for this award or to learn more, click here.
W. H. Howie McClennan Scholarship
Among the different scholarships for firefighters and their families is the W.H. Howie McClennan Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to children and dependents of firefighters who were killed in the line of duty. All of those who wish to apply for this award must be able to provide proof of their relation to a deceased firefighter and explain financial need.
As the award can provide up to twenty-five hundred dollars in aid, this scholarship can be a great way to gain monies in memory of those who have fallen. Those who wish to apply must provide information regarding their educational abilities—including transcripts—and they must also complete an appropriate essay that answers the prompt for that year’s awards.
