Although Rhode Island is one of the smallest states, there are many young people who anticipate attending college. The Rhode Island Foundation Scholarships manages over one hundred different scholarships for Rhode Island students. Awards are open to students from all academic levels, including undergraduate and graduate students. Some awards require that students pursue a specific major or career while others require that students reside in a specific part of Rhode Island. Rhode Island State Grant provides awards that range from $250 to $700. In order to be eligible for this award, students must be residents of both the United States and Rhode Island. In addition, students must plan to enroll in at least six credits at an eligible university. Furthermore, students must demonstrate financial need in order to be eligible. Students who complete the FAFSA application prior to March 1st are automatically considered for this award.
Academic Promise Scholarships are open to eligible Rhode Island students. These awards provide students with awards worth $2,500 per year. This award is renewable up to three additional times for students who are in four-year programs. In order to apply for this award, students must complete a FAFSA application prior to the March 1st deadline. In addition, students must take and report their SAT or ACT scores.
Shaw Worth Scholarship Award provides an award worth up to $2,500 to a student from one of the eligible states, which includes Rhode Island. This award is earmarked for a high school senior who had contributed in a meaningful way to animal protection. This may involve inspiring other youth to become involved in animal advocacy or through academic work related to humane topics. Students must demonstrate an active involvement in animal welfare throughout a period of time. In order to apply for the award, students are required to write a brief essay that includes their attitude towards animals and their prior involvement in animal welfare. Furthermore, they must submit proof of involvement in animal activities, their future career goals, and three letters of recommendation.
