Studying government and politics can be fun and it can be exciting. A completed degree can also lead to many different career and job opportunities as well. For those that are interested in studying this diversified and interesting field of study, there is some consideration that should be made when it comes to financing this education. A passion for politics and academic power may be a means of getting into college but it does not always pay the bills…unless you know where to look. Many organizations that are linked to politics or institutions that provide this type of education as an educational option offer political science scholarships that can help to pay for schooling and ensure that an individual gets the best possible chance to pursue their educational dreams.
Minority Fellowship Program
For those that want political science scholarships and who are pursuing a Ph.D. in this area of study, there is help available through the Minority Fellowship Program. The Minority Fellowship Program was started in 1969 and looks to reward those from a diversified and minority-considered background to find financial help in their educational pursuits in political science study. Originally called the Black Graduate Fellowship, students that wish to apply for this scholarship must meet certain criteria. They must be enrolled in an accredited Ph.D. program in the study of political science. They must be from a racial or ethnic background that is considered to have a minority designation. This can include Native Americans, African-Americans, Hispanic Americans, Latinos, and more. Those that are pursuing a Master’s Degree may also apply. Further, all applicants must demonstrate an interest or willingness to teach and research in the field if applicable as well. For more information or to apply for this grant, which can offer near full-tuition reimbursement, visit the criteria and eligibility page here.
The Fund for Latino Scholarship
Among the political science scholarships available to students who are studying in this field is The Fund for Latino Scholarship funded by the American Political Science Association (APSA). This scholarship is, as the name suggests, to help those that are Latino pay for their schooling and their pursuit of a political science degree. Students who wish to apply must understand that the grant is only for those with financial need, who have traveling to do between their home country and their place of study, and who are researching a political question or topic in an approved. Note, those that are not necessarily Latino but who are studying and researching in an area specific to this population and within a political context may be eligible for a grant. Those that wish to apply should make sure that they are eligible for these one-thousand dollar grants for research by meeting all of the criteria and providing all of the necessary forms and paperwork. That information can be found by clicking this link and utilizing the information provided to put together the best application possible for this one of the political science scholarships currently available.
