Students from North Carolina have more to love than just the Outer Banks. North Carolina offers students a wide range of choices in terms of which college or university to attend. Many scholarships have been created to help students with NC ties attend college.
Some of these scholarships require that students reside in NC while other scholarships are open to any student who is attending school in NC. The best way for NC students to determine whether they qualify for any NC state funding is to complete a FAFSA. In addition to this step, many students find it helpful to inquire with their future college and academic department about available scholarships. Some types of funding are specific to certain institutions or majors. However, if you are still seeking North Carolina scholarships, check out the list below:
Colon Furr Memorial Nursing Scholarship provides awards worth $600 to eligible students. This award is open to any NC resident who plans to major in Licensed Practical Nursing or obtain certification to be a Registered Nurse. Students must plan to attend a school in the State of North Carolina.
Jagannathan Scholarships are open to high school students in NC. Students must plan to attend The University of North Carolina and be a resident of NC in order to be eligible for this award. In addition, students must have shown academic excellence, financial need, and leadership skills. The amount of the award varies and students must complete an application prior to February 1st in order to be considered.
NCAE Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship is open to residents of NC who are in their last year of high school. Applicants are chosen based on academic merit, personality, and demonstrated character. This scholarship provides an award worth $500. In order to be considered, students must submit a completed application prior to March 31st. The Winston Salem Foundation provides a list of different grants that NC residents may be eligible to apply for. Some of these grants are open exclusively to students who intend to major in certain fields (i.e., healthcare) while other awards are given to students based on certain characteristics (i.e., financial need). A full list of available awards, along with the criteria for each award, can be found here: http://www.wsfoundation.org/page.aspx?pid=745.
North Carolina Teacher Assistance Scholarship Fund provides grants to train future teachers. In order to be considered for this award, students must demonstrate financial need and academic merit.
