The Garden State is known for its beautiful beaches. Additionally, New Jersey is known for its high quality colleges and universities, such as Rutgers and Princeton. Students with ties to New Jersey may be excited to know that there are a number of scholarships that may help them fund their studies. Some of these scholarships are specific to certain colleges or universities while others are open to any NJ residents. The best way to determine whether you are eligible for any federal or state funding is to complete a FAFSA application. The Saul and Adelaide Goldfarb Scholarship is awarded to incoming graduate students at Montclair State University. This award is open to students who have never received a graduate degree. The amount of the award varies depending on the level of the student, such that $4,000 is available to students in master’s programs and $5,000 is available to students in doctoral programs. The award is only open to full-time students and a minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required. All applications are due prior to the April 1st deadline. A completed application, which can be found online, must be submitted along with two letters of recommendation. The Melissa Anne Centrella Scholarship Foundation provides several awards that range in value from $1,000 to $2,000. Some scholarships are earmarked specifically for students who plan to attend nursing programs. In order to be eligible to apply for this award, students must plan to pursue a career in a medical or nursing field. In addition, students must hold at least a 3.0 grade point average and must show proof that they have completed community service. In addition, students are required to write a brief essay. National Tourism Association New Jersey Scholarship provides awards to students who are residents of NJ. In order to be eligible, students must be enrolled in an undergraduate program and majoring in a tourism or hospitality related field. The student must attend a school in the State of NJ and must hold at least a 3.0 grade point average. Students are required to write a brief essay outlining their career goals and provide letters of recommendation.
Tuition Aid Grants are awarded to students based on level of need, cost of attendance, and funding available. Thus, the amount of the award varies by individual however the maximum grant amount cannot be greater than the cost of the actual tuition charges. These awards are renewable. In order to be eligible, students must be a resident of NJ for at least one year, register with Selective Service, enroll on a full-time basis, attend an accredited institution, and be enrolled in their first degree.
