Students in Montana may be exited to know that they have many options for Montana scholarships. Some of these funding opportunities are open only to residents of the state. Youth Serve Montana Scholarships are awarded annually to over 70 Montana high school seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to community service. In order to be eligible for this award, students must have completed at least one hundred hours of community service within the past year. All of these hours must be unpaid. Additionally, students must demonstrate financial need. The winners will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to help defray the cost of their college education. Horatio Alger Montana Scholarship Program provides awards of up to $12,000 to eligible students. Over 50 of these awards are given out and some of the scholarship if funded through the program while the remaining amount will be covered by the student’s institution. All recipients must agree to attend either the University of Montana or Montana State University. In order to be eligible for this scholarship, students must be attending a high school in Montana and must be in their last year. They must plan to enroll in a college or university for the fall semester after graduation. Students must show high financial need and be involved in school or community service activities. The strongest candidates will have shown perseverance in overcoming challenges and hold at least a 2.0 grade point average. Montana State University Non-Resident Freshman Achievement Awards are awarded to students from outside Montana who apply to MSU. The amount of the award varies from $8,000 to $60,000 depending on the students ACT and/or SAT scores. In order to apply, students must complete the FAFSA prior to March 1st.
Best and Brightest Scholarships are awarded to Montana high school students who demonstrate academic excellence. In order to be eligible, students must graduate from a Montana high school and be accepted to a college or university within Montana. Furthermore, students must take either the SAT or ACT by December 31st of their senior year in high school. All students must hold at least a 3.0 grade point average. Students must be planning to obtain their first two or four year degree and must plan to enroll in college during the fall semester that follows their graduation date.
