Massachusetts is known worldwide for their top class colleges and universities. Highly regarded institutions, such as Harvard, Boston University, and M.I.T., all attract top-notch students from all over the country and world. With the large number of colleges and universities in the state, Massachusetts has created a large number of scholarships to help students afford a higher education. Some of these scholarships are geared specifically to students who are residents of Massachusetts. Other scholarships were created for students who simply attend a college or university within the state of MA. Massachusetts Early Childhood Educators Scholarships are aimed at increasing the number of high quality teachers and child care provides in Massachusetts. In order to be eligible for this award, students must be residents of both MA and the United States. Students must complete the FAFSA and enroll in an undergraduate degree program that is related to education. Eligible fields include psychology, sociology, and education. Furthermore, students must be employed for a minimum of one year at an early education program within the state. Furthermore, students must agree to continue to work within the state upon their graduation. The exact amount of the award varies by institution and permits eligible students to receive up to $2,250 for community college programs and up to $4,500 for other colleges and universities. Public Service Grant Program is open to students who have been residents of the state for at least one year. In addition, students must enroll full-time and meet additional eligibility criteria. Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts provides over seventy scholarships of up to $10,000 for residents of MA. There are a number of different scholarships that are open only to students from Western Massachusetts. Each award has specific criteria. Massachusetts Cash Grant Program was created to help financially needy students afford a higher education. This is an additional program to students who are recipients of the Need-Based Tuition Waiver program. Massachusetts Foster Child Grant Program provides awards to children who were in foster care in MA. These awards provide funding of up to $6,000 to help students attend a public college or university within the state. In addition to the above scholarships, students with ties to Massachusetts should complete a FAFSA to determine their eligibility for federal and state funding.
