Students who have garnered leadership skills throughout their high school careers have a unique opportunity to leverage their skills for scholarships. Many scholarships include leadership experience in their selection process and consider it as one factor when deciding on which applicants should receive funding. However, there are many scholarships that look mainly at leadership skills. So, if you were the President of your class, volunteered in a leadership role within your school or community, or have found leadership experience some other way, then consider these leadership scholarships:
Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program provides scholarships worth $1,000 to students who demonstrate leadership within their community. In order to be eligible for this award, students must reside in an area serviced by Comcast. Additionally, students must obtain the nomination of an administrator at their school. Disabled American Veterans Jesse Brown Scholarship provides scholarship money to students who volunteer over 100 hours. Students may have the chance to win a scholarship of up to $20,000 to defray the cost of their education.
National Caring Award awards scholarships to high school students who are younger than 18 years of age. In order to be eligible, students must demonstrate a strong sense of selfless care and concern for other people. Preference is given to those who have shown a lasting commitment to improving society through their efforts. Students must be nominated for this award by completing an online form that provides their name, date of birth, grade level, and school. In addition, letters of recommendation are strongly encouraged.
The National Society of Leadership and Success provides various grants for leaders. One such grant, the Society Service Award, offers scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $4,000. This award aims to honor members who have used their leadership skills to improve the world. A total of four awards are offered and the scholarships have two deadlines: October 31st and April 10th. In order to be eligible, students must be a member and have received the National Engaged Leader Award. Furthermore, they must have at least 15 hours of community service. In order to apply, students simply complete an online application, provide documentation of their volunteer work, and write an essay in which they respond to several questions. The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Program provides grants of up to $28,000. This grant is competitive and is awarded to students who demonstrate leadership skills and financial need. This award is open to minority students only. Current high school students who plan to attend a four year college or university are eligible to apply for this award. Segal AmeriCorps Education Award provides grants to students who have demonstrated leadership within their community through finishing an AmeriCorps program.
