The American Express Platinum Card has a long history of being the go-to credit card for those who appreciate the finer things in life. Marketed mainly to those with high income and a strong credit history, the Platinum Card from American Express (Amex) is known for its cardmembers perks for premium-level customers.
Recently, American Express entered the world of metal credit card – a new trend that boosts the feeling of luxury and appeals to those who like some literal weight behind their payment of choice. But if you are an American Express Platinum Card member, you likely still have the plastic version of your high-dollar credit card. Here’s how to get the American Express platinum metal card without having to wait until your plastic version expires.
Have Your Plastic Card Ready
Some customers have not yet received the updated metal Amex Platinum Card, but it can easily be requested via phone or through an online request form. If cardmembers prefer to call, or they utilize the online tool, it may be necessary to have the physical plastic credit card in front of them. Details from the card may be needed to verify that the cardholder is who they say they are.
Pick a Method
Once you have your plastic Platinum Card in front of you, it is easiest to navigate to the American Express website and sign in. From there, cardmembers can select Account Services near the top of the page. Then, cardmembers should choose the Card Management option on the lefthand side of the page. Under Card Management, cardmembers with a plastic Platinum credit card may click on the Request Metal Card or Replace Damaged Card link.
American Express will ask a handful of questions about why the card is being replaced, including whether it was lost, stolen, or for upgrading to the metal card. Platinum cardmembers simply need to select the Request Metal Card option and verify the three-digit code on the back of their current card. From there, American Express will verify the cardmember’s shipping address and present options for standard or expedited shipping. Once those details are clear, cardmembers receive confirmation and an estimated delivery date for their new metal credit card.
If the online method is not convenient or possible for a cardmember, requesting the metal Amex Platinum Card can be done over the phone. The cardmember may call American Express customer service at 1-800-528-4800 and follow a similar process to request a metal card. Cardmembers will need to verify their identity, provide the same three-digit code on the back of their current Platinum Card, and confirm shipping details through the phone process. Receiving an updated metal Platinum Card may take longer when requests are placed over the phone instead of online.
It is fairly simple for American Express Platinum cardmembers to request an updated metal version of their credit card online or over the phone. Until the new metal credit card arrives, however, cardmembers can continue to use their plastic credit card to receive all the benefits American Express has to offer its Platinum customers.
