Delaware offers a program geared toward loan forgiveness that can give a person up to one-hundred thousand dollars in student loan aid. This program, known as the Delaware State Loan Repayment Program, is geared toward those in the medical profession. Specifically, they look to recruit, reward, and retain those in the fields of mental health, primary care, and dentistry. Those that are going to apply for this loan forgiveness program should be working in a federally designated HPSA region and work with those in Delaware’s underserved populations.

They must also meet other requirements including:

  • Must have student loans and be able to provide proof of said loans
  • Must not be in default on any loan obligations
  • Must be a verifiable US citizen
  • Must not have external contracts that may conflict with the ability to work in the medical field
  • Must have all licenses to practice within the state
  • Must be in good standing on all medical licenses
  • Must never have been convicted of a felony or have any federal liens
  • Must never have been disciplined by any state board or agency that provides medical licenses
  • Must be current on all child support payments
  • Must work in a region that is designated as a Healthcare Professional Shortage Area (HPSA)
  • Must be working and commit to do so full-time
