Connecticut students have a number of choices if they are seeking to attend a college in the State of Connecticut. These students may not know that there are also a number of scholarships available to students from Connecticut or students who plan to attend a college or university within the state. In order to determine eligibility for state scholarships, students should begin by completing the FAFSA. This will enable students to determine whether they are eligible for any federal funding and/or state funding.
The State of Connecticut offers a number of scholarships. One such scholarship is called the Governor’s Scholarship. Any resident of Connecticut who is a high school senior and who ranks within the top 20% of their graduating class is eligible to apply. In addition, students are required to score high on standardized entrance tests. The award provides a maximum of $5,000 per year and applicants are chosen based on demonstrated need and academic achievement. Minority Teacher Incentive Grant is open to any minority students who are enrolled in college in CT. The award provides up to $5,000 per year during a college student’s junior and senior years if the student is enrolled in a teaching preparatory program. Students must be Latino/a, African American, Asian, or Native American and be nominated by an Education Dean at the school they attend. Furthermore, applicants must agree to teach in a public school within CT in exchange for the award.
Connecticut Veterans Tuition Waiver is open to active members of the CT National Guard or CT Army. In addition, the families of members who were killed in the line of duty after the September 11th terrorist attacks are eligible for this award. New England Employee Benefits Council Scholarship is open to students who plan a career related to employee benefits. This award is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. In order to be eligible, students must live in New England or attend a college in New England. The amount of the award varies, with the maximum award amount capped at $5,000. NTA Connecticut Scholarship provides a scholarship worth $1,000. In order to be eligible, students must be residents of both the U.S. and CT. Students must plan to pursue a career related in tourism or hospitality. They must hold a 3.0 grade point average and plan to enroll in a college or university.
