When looking for scholarships, who would have thought to look at funding through a much loved soft-drink company?! Well, it is time to consider applying for scholarships through Coca-Cola! Soft drink mega-giant Coca-Cola has offered scholarships through their Coca-Cola Scholars program for over 25 years.
You may be wondering who is best suited to win these Coca-Cola scholarships. If you have a passion for social justice and volunteer either within your school and/or community, you may be an excellent candidate for this scholarship. In addition to service and a commitment to changing the world through service, applications are reviewed for academic excellence. This is one scholarship where need-based criteria are not considered, so as long as you have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA you may apply. The scholarships are open to high school seniors and current two-year community college students who are at least 18 years of age who have demonstrated both academic excellence and a commitment to social justice through volunteering in their communities. The website also indicates that many students have overcome obstacles, so if you have also overcome some obstacle, it may be worthwhile to highlight that in your application. One main exclusion criteria is that applicants may not be children or grandchild of Coca-Cola employees.
According to their website, there are three types of scholarships available: Coca-Cola Scholars Scholarship, Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team, and the Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship. The Scholars Scholarship is open to high school seniors who anticipate graduating, who hold at least a 3.0 GPA after junior year, and who apply online between August and October of their final year of high school. The 150 lucky winners of this scholarship receive $20,000 to fund their educational goals. The Community College Academic Team provides smaller grants to students who are currently enrolled in junior (or community colleges). These scholarships range from $1,000-$1,500 and a total of 150 scholarships are offered under this category. The application deadline for this category is slightly later –students must apply by December 2. The Leaders of Promise scholarship program affords $1,000 of funding to 180 current community college students who apply by April 30th. Coca-Cola has demonstrated that they are interested in supporting students who wish to receive an education through community colleges, thus, the latter two scholarships are a reflection of their dedication to this goal.
While the exact deadlines vary by the type of scholarship you apply for, the three different scholarships have a common application procedure. After writing your college admissions essay, you may be excited to know that this application has no essay! All you need to apply are information pertaining to your involvement in school and community activities, your grades, and information pertaining to any previous employment you have held. In sum, if you are a well-rounded, smart, and service-oriented student who is passionate about making lasting changes in your neighborhood, this scholarship is an excellent match for you! Whether or not you drink a coke while completing the application is completely up to you!
