Many students do not realize how many scholarships are out there for students who practice the Christian faith. Some of these scholarships are available to students who plan to enter the seminary while others are available to any student who self-identifies as Catholic. Some scholarships are available through churches, private foundations and organizations, and other institutions. In addition, many private Catholic colleges and universities are able to offer students some funding. See the scholarships below to get an idea of the types of scholarships that are available to Catholic students:
Colorado Christian University Scholarships provides up to $56,000 in funding to eligible students. There are various scholarships available to Catholic students. The Trustees’ Scholarship offers $56,000 in funding, the President’s Scholarship offers $48,000 in funding, the Dean’s scholarship offers $40,000 in funding, and the Honors Scholarship offers $28,000 in funding. Awards are made based on a combination of academic merit and financial need. In addition, unique skills, community service, and leadership abilities are also considered. Catholic University of America Parish Scholarships are open to Catholic University students who are citizens of the United States. Students must plan to enroll full time at CUA and this award is only open to high school seniors or new transfers to the university. Any parishioner of a Catholic church is eligible to be nominated for this award. It provides $3,000 of funding after receiving a nomination from a pastor. There are some limits of funding, so other factors such as leadership ability and involvement in community and school activities are also considered. Twin Tiers Youth for Christ Scholarship provides a $4,000 scholarship to a Christian applicant who has lived in Chemung County for at least half a year. Students must plan to enroll in a college or university and must request a recommendation from a pastor. Applicants will be required to write an essay on their development as a Christian.
Winston-Salem Foundation Emma Kapp Ogburn Memorial Fund provides funding to residents of Forsyth County who want to enter the Methodist ministry or obtain a Christian education. The amount of the award varies depending on the funds available. The scholarship can be applied to tuition expenses as well as other education expenses such as meal plans, dorm fees, student fees, and textbooks. In order to be eligible to apply for this award, students must be from the Methodist denomination, reside in Forsyth County, and have a passion about Christian education. Foundation for College Christian Leaders Scholarship provides scholarships to students who have shown leadership within the Christian community. Students must be incoming freshmen with at least a 3.0 grade point average. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and resident in California, Washington, or Oregon. Priority consideration is given to students from a minority background.
