Repaying Student Loans
If you cannot repay your student loans, you have five options to consider. You can change your repayment plan, consolidate or refinance, defer payments, put loans into forbearance, or try to discharge or settle your debt.
Certain strategies such as paying more than the minimum payment, paying higher-interest loans down first, and getting student loan repayment assistance from your employer may help you pay off your student loans fast.
Student loan borrowers who have more than one loan and want to simplify their repayment efforts may find an answer in student loan consolidation. You can combine federal student loans together via the Direct Consolidation Loan or you can combine federal and/or private student loans via private student loan consolidation.
Student loan debt has proven to be crippling for many students, but forgiveness programs are available in addition to cancellation and discharge of loans. Most loan forgiveness programs stem from employment in certain fields through either federal or state-based programs.
