Arizona State University offers a number of scholarships to eligible students. The available scholarships vary by type of student, year in school, department in which you enroll, and your grade point average. A good starting point for interested students is the Scholarship Resources website, which is available at the following link: https://students.asu.edu/scholarships/resources. This link guides ASU students through their scholarship search. Additionally, it provides tips and resources to help students with their applications process. For example, there are events and workshops geared towards helping students compile strong applications. Furthermore, it provides suggestions to help students write compelling essays as well as how to complete the FAFSA application.
ASU offers scholarships based on student type. Below is a sample of some of the scholarships available to different types of students:
New American University Scholarship International is offered to an incoming freshman student. Students must demonstrate academic excellence. The amount of the award ranges from $3,000 to $8,000. Students must be enrolled at full-time status. In addition, no separate application is required as all admitted ASU students are automatically considered for this scholarship.
Transfer students also have a plethora of scholarships that they are eligible for to further their educational goals. Transfer students should begin their search at the following website: https://scholarships.asu.edu/transfers. This lists scholarships starting at $500 to $10,000. One of the largest scholarships is for $10,000 for a student who is re-engaging studies after an absence of at least five years. Transfer Achievement Awards are also awarded to transfer students who are Arizona residents and who are transferring to ASU from an in-state community college. Students must have at least a 3.75 grade point average and must show financial need.
Some scholarships available to ASU students require a separate application. These include the Barrett Scholarships, which can be found at this link: https://barretthonors.asu.edu/academics/scholarships-and-fellowships/barrett-scholarships. Additionally, the Beus Family New American University Scholarship provides incoming students an award of up to $15,000 annually. To be eligible, students must be active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In addition, they must plan to study either a STEM degree or a music degree.
The T.W. Lewis Scholarship is one of the largest awards offered at ASU. Ten of these scholarships are awarded year to deserving students. The award is for $20,000 which is spread out in increments of $5,000 over four years. Recipients of this award are considered to be future leaders and the aim of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance, enhanced learning opportunities, and increased career counseling to help students reach their maximum capabilities and contribute to society at large.
ASU also maintains a list of scholarships that are available through individual colleges and departments. A list of these opportunities can be found at this website: https://scholarships.asu.edu/colleges. Students at ASU may also want to consider making an appointment with a financial aid counselor who can help them understand which scholarships they may qualify for prior to applying. In addition, these counselors may have more information about other state or national scholarships that ASU students might want to consider.
