American Express, or sometimes more often known as Amex, has grown to offer financial services to people across the whole world, not just in the United States. Their global expansion has made them one of the leading competitors in the industry of consumer financing as well as business financing. Check out one of their most popular business charge cards – the American Express Business Platinum Card.
Benefits & Rewards
The Amex Business Platinum Card is definitely not without its benefits and rewards. It currently features a welcome offer going on that allows you to earn up to 75,000 Membership Rewards Points within your first three months. To earn this, you must spend $10,000 for your first 50,000 points, and an additional $10,000 for the extra 25,000 points.
On regular business expenditures, you earn 1 point for each dollar spend on normal purchases. Business owners can earn 1.5x points on purchases that exceed $5,000, and they’ll earn 2x on purchases made through the American Express Travel website.
On top of earning points, you can also take advantage of the other perks that come along with this card. For instance, you can take advantage of a $200 airline fee credit, Global Airport Lounge access, concierge service, Wi-Fi services, and much more.
You will also be able to use their premium roadside assistance, baggage insurance plans, travel accident insurance, and much more. You will also get a copy of the Departures magazine seven times a year, giving you access to information about travel, dining, shopping and much more.

When you apply for the Amex Business Platinum Card, it is important to understand that it isn’t a credit card. It is actually a charge card which means you must pay your balance in full each month. Doing this will avoid any late fees.
However, they do have options available that will give you flexibility with payments. For instance, you can use their Pay Over Time feature to pay your bill over time with an APR involved. The annual percentage rate for these balances is 19.24%, variable. This is, of course, if you make your payments on time. If you have late or returned payments, you may be looking at a penalty APR of up to 29.99%.
You will also want to be aware of the $450 annual membership fee that is assessed to all Amex Business Platinum cardholders. This fee will be charged to your account annually. Great news for business customers that love to travel, this card does not charge foreign transaction fees.
The only other fees that come with this card are the penalty fees. Like the penalty APR, these fees are assessed when you have a late payment or returned payment. Late payment penalty fees are either $38, or 2.99% of any of the past due Pay in Full balance (whichever fee produces the greater value in a certain case is used). The standard fee for returned payments is a flat $38.
The Bottom Line
If you enjoy traveling, or just find that you have to travel for business, then the Amex Business Platinum Card may be a great card for you to consider. It definitely has its fair share of travel perks and rewards. The only potentially negative factor with this card is that there is a $450 annual membership fee, but this could be manageable for a business.
